Earth Day Yoga

April 19, 12-1pm PST Earth Day Yoga!

So folks, it’s Earth Day coming up, soon after the amazing total eclipse. And it’s also my 70th birthday coming up this weekend. When my partner Bernie asked what I would like for my birthday, I couldn’t really say - You don’t really want much more stuff at my age! but later I thought that my honest answer would be something like: “An ecologically balanced and sustainably happy planet” Not much to ask really. And this reminded me of the following poem….

Everything, Anything by Laura Grace Weldon

“Find everything you’re looking for?” a clerk asks
and I say, “I’m still looking for world peace.”
“Can I get you anything else?” a nurse asks
and I say, “Yes, a safe haven for refugees.”
For a millisecond, their faces soften
as they take a deep breath of imagining
then laugh or shake their heads
or commiserate. For a few minutes
we might even discuss
our planet’s highest possibilities.
Maybe that deep breath,
that imagining,
is a starting place.

For my birthday, perhaps one miniscule imagining step is sharing it with you on April 19 at 12-1pm with a fun, gently active, eco-oriented practice + a metta meditation to celebrate our planets and our own “highest possibilities”. This class will be accessible for most mortals, and will include imagery and poetry to remind us of the beauty of our planet and our belonging. If you can’t come, you can access the recording on my website until the end of the month. Everyone is invited to donate via Yoga for Climate Action to one of 4 organizations doing inspiring environmental work on behalf of all beings and life. If this class needs to be free, be my guest. We all find our own ways to care for our home.
