This workshop will focus on aligning through the bones and re-establishing a healthy and natural relationship to the earth by re-examining the way we stand, sit, drive, walk and sleep! Yoga is an ancient discipline that combined with modern postural explorations can relieve discomfort, create balance and integrity in the spinal structure and core, and release excessive muscular tension. Modern yoga can also--if done without postural awareness and attention to an individuals needs and tendencies--create more back issues!
This workshop is suitable for a wide range of student from the complete beginner to the experienced teacher. Please consult your medical practitioner if you are unsure if yoga exercises would be helpful for your particular condition.
From 9.30am to 11.30am, we will look at posture and breath using plumb lines, observation and simple exercises. After a short break (please bring a drink or snack), we will review all the different ways yoga can help support a healthy back by freeing the pelvis, enlivening the core and creating a simple home practice that stretches, strengthens and balances the whole body and particularly the spine. We will explore optimum ways to sit, stand, transition, and sleep. Leave refreshed and with handouts and support for a happy back!
Mary has been teaching and training teachers for over three decades and finds that at the heart of her teaching is an exploration of basic posture and spinal care.
